Dr David Lamper
Musical Director
David Lamper had a successful career in education, first as a music teacher and for the last 22 years as a headteacher.
He was Head of the Crypt School in Gloucester and Kent College in Canterbury. Alongside this, he was the founding CEO of the Wesley (Multi Academy) Trust for the Methodist Church. He also founded sister schools for Kent College in Dubai and Cairo.
David studied music at King’s College London and took lessons in singing and conducting at the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. He also plays the viola and violin.
A couple of years ago David retired to the South Lakes and is delighted to be able to return to musical pursuits with the Carnforth and District Choral Society.
Who we are
Founded in the mid-1960s by Mr. Piper, then headteacher of Christ Church School, the Carnforth and District Choral Society began as a simple request from parents wishing to sing together each week. Today, we are led by our Musical Director, Dr David Lamper, and ably accompanied by Lucy Baldwin. We are also proud to have our long-standing former conductor, Betty Morrow, serving as our President, maintaining a direct link to our foundational years.
What we do
We pride ourselves on performing a diverse and engaging repertoire. While we often focus on classical and ecclesiastical choral works, we also sing a range of other works, including songs from musicals. We perform three main concerts a year, in the Spring, Summer, and at Christmas, alongside various charitable events for the community. Whatever we are singing, we strive for musical excellence in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
